Wright’s Well Control Services’ (WWCS) certified professionals are highly experienced in handling energetic materials and explosive devices during different phases of offshore operations including severing services. Explosive work is offered as part of WWCS’ comprehensive plug and abandonment and decommissioning services or as a stand-alone offering.

Explosive Services for Plug & Abandonment

During the plug and abandonment phase of well decommissioning, WWCS uses expertly deployed explosives to perforate casing strings, facilitating the circulation of fluids and sealing the well with a cement plug.

WWCS is developing proprietary explosive cutters capable of severing standard production tubing and casing. These specialized cutters will also be readily adjustable to cut unusual sizes of tubing or casing string encountered offshore.

Explosive Services for Decommissioning and Structure Removal

During platform removal, explosives are used to sever pilings and well conductors. WWCS provides a range of bulk and focusing charges for these operations with several options for weight and diameter. By adjusting these charges, technicians can easily cut different sizes of structural members.

WWCS sources all the explosives for decommissioning projects internally with its own EX number for manufacturing and transporting energetic materials, saving clients time and money.

A Commitment to Explosive Training & Safety

WWCS personnel in this group have taken and passed the Louisiana explosive handling course. Technicians must pass the Louisiana users training course and have a minimum two years of training under a licensed technician in their particular field. Monthly in-house training is also required for all personnel who work with energetic materials.

To further support WWCS’ expertise in this area, the company maintains an explosives manufacturer’s license.

WWCS has never had an accident applying energetic materials.
